The Artwork Travelling By Train From Switzerland to Belgium

After a few intense days at the fair Art Basel, I suddenly found myself with an artwork squeezed between my legs on the train from Switzerland to Belgium.

Art Basel is one of the most prestigious and influential art fairs in the world, held four times a year: in Basel (Switzerland), Miami Beach (USA), Paris (France), and Hong Kong. The fair is a commercial event where artworks are bought and sold by 240 galleries from all over the world.

So, did I buy an artwork for myself at the fair?

Well, no. I did buy an artwork, but not for myself. And actually, I didn’t buy it myself either, haha. I work as an intermediary in the purchase of an artwork between a gallery and my client, earning a commission in the process. You could compare my work to that of a real estate agent. In the art world, this is known as an art consultant; I’m not a fan of the term, but for lack of a better one, I’ll stick with it for now, haha.

What piece did I buy and take with me on the train to Belgium?

It's quite common for artworks to be taken home directly from the art fair or in general to be transported by train. I recently spoke with someone from the Belgian art world who told me a very special story about three artworks he once transported by train from Brussels to Paris...

My paying readers will discover that incredible story and the reveal of which young Japanese artist I bought at Art Basel! So keep scrolling and enjoy the content in the newsletter of this week and next week!
